The Charles, Shawsheen and Sudbury/Concord watersheds are key elements. The area is moderately constricted by development.This area includes some elements of Pennsylvanian basin land along the Charles Watershed.

Among the Spoke Trails included are Minuteman Bikeway, Massachusetts Central Rail Trail, Charles River Link, Bay Colony and Upper Charles.

The Eastern Branch heads south at Haggetts Pond in Andover and passes through Tewksbury and Billerica to meet the Narrow Gauge Railway in Bedford.
